Editorial Reviews
Book Description
Based on the journals maintained at Greer Gardens, this pedigree book of some 5000 hybrids is organized by grex so that hybrids of the same parents are listed together, with cross-references from the hybrid name. The photographs are all different from those in the first edition.
About the Author
Homer E. Salley is a retired university professor (University of Toledo). His large garden is situated in a woodland surrounding the geodesic dome which he built, and in which he and his wife reside. He has specialized in growing the very hardy species and cultivars (over 100 of them), and has toured extensively to study gardens in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the United States, and Canada. Dr. Salley is a member of both the Great Lakes Chapters of the American Rhododendron Society and the Rhododendron Group, RHS; he is a board member of the Rhododendron Research Foundation; and he has collected over 600 records of rhododendron and azalea research. Harold E. Greer is the founder and owner of the world-renowned Greer Gardens, located in Eugene, Oregon. The nursery grows and sells a wide variety of unusual trees and shrubs; rhododendrons are a major specialty. He is an officer and past president of the American Rhododendron Society, as well as a recipient of the ARS Gold Medal award for special contribution as a grower. Mr. Greer has arranged and led a number of domestic and international tours to acquaint rhododendron growers with the extraordinary number of plants in this remarkable genus. He is well known for his plant photography.
