Using principles outlined in her previous book on interior home design, Pure Style, Jane Cumberbatch now moves the party outside to the patio and garden, a space that is often underutilized in today's over-air-conditioned, remote-controlled world. Her concepts are simple: lots of supersaturated color, interesting textures, plenty of plants, comfortable sturdy furniture, and tough fabrics make the porch and yard a fun place to be. Heck, why not eat out there too? Cumberbatch suggests morning espresso, lunch alfresco, afternoon tea, and casual birthday parties. It's not earth-shatteringly original, but Cumberbatch has a true flair for the simple and attractive, and the pictures are lovely. It would be nice to see someone sitting in those pretty, sunny chairs eating the summery food, but perhaps their very emptiness makes them seem that much more available. --Barrie Trinkle

About the Author
Jane Cumberbatch is a successful stylist, author, and designer, whose vision of a simpler way of life is explained in her bestselling book "'Pure Style"', also published by Ryland Peters and Small. Her unique look is in demand from companies such as Marks and Spencer, Habitat, and Laura Ashley. Jane has also created, directed, and produced many design stories for Elle Decoration, Red, House and Garden. The Times, and Marie Claire. Jane and her three young children spend a large proportion of the year on their finca in Andalucia, Spain, where she has helped her husband set up a business processing organic chestnuts. Under the warm Spanish sun and blue skies, Jane and her family are able to garden, raise their own vegetables, eat alfresco, and make the most of living outdoors. Pia Tryde had a long career as a model before deciding to study photography. Since then, she has contributed to numberous books and magazines, photographing everything from fashion and food to interiors and gardens.
