Taking as a starting point the inventory of authors from the renowned Index Islamicus, the author, Wolfgang Behn (Berlin), has systematically collected numerous data on the lives and works of the tens of thousands of authors listed in the Index Islamicus from 1665 to 1980.

About the Author
Wolfgang Behn, M.A.(1968) in Islamic Studies, was editor of the Union catalogue of Islamic publications at the Staatsbibliothek, Berlin, until his retirement in 1996. He translated several works from German, Dutch and Arabic and collected, compiled and published four bibliographies. He also launched the Islamic Book Review Index (published between 1982-1992) and devoted his time to the Index Islamicus, 1665-1905 (1989) and its Supplement, 1665-1980 (1995-1996). --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.
