Book Description
Gonda's Selected Studies I-V were presented to him by his staff in 1975 on the occasion of his 70th birthday which coincided with the then usual year of retirement of Dutch professors. Actually he remained in office for one more year and thus held the chair of (i.a.) Sanskrit at Utrecht University for almost 45 years. His gigantic scholarly productivity never decreased since then. Now, fifteen years after he left the Institute of Oriental languages, the Department of Indology is glad to honour Gonda with these two new volumes of Selected Studies, which include a complete bibliography of his publications continuing the one published in his Felicitation Volume India Maior (1972). Selected Studies I-V were thematically arranged. In the present two volumes almost exclusively dealing with Vedism a chronological order is followed. This collection of papers covers the period 1972 till now. Contributions to encyclopaedias, separately published lectures of the Netherlands Royal Academy, reviews and one or two articles which were not available in a reproducible form have not been included.
