The Stories of the Prophets: Qisas Al-Anbiya : An Eastern Turkish Version
Editorial Reviews
Book Description
Rabghuzi's The Stories of the Prophets, written in A.D. 1310 in Khwarezmian Turkish, is one of the most important Islamic Turkish texts. Notwithstanding this fact, a critical edition has never before been published. The work contains a mixture of theological discourse, popular stories and poems which together form an important source both for historical linguistics and literary criticism, and for Islamic studies. The present publication offers an edition of the text in two volumes. The first volume contains a critical text edition based on the British Library manuscript (the oldest manuscript extant), but with additions from, and some collation with, two manuscripts from libraries in St. Petersburg. The text edition is accompanied by a selective glossary. The translation offered in the second volume is directly based on the text as established in the first volume. Extensive indices are included to enhance the usefulness of the edition as a whole.
